Frequently Asked

Everything you need to know before starting a project with us. Still have questions? Just call — we're happy to talk it through.

General
We're based in Laurens, SC and serve clients across Upstate South Carolina — including Greenville County, Anderson County, Laurens County, and the surrounding Piedmont region. For larger projects, we can discuss delivery or pickup.
Yes. Roger runs the shop, operates the equipment, and handles the welds himself. That means when you have a question, you talk to the person actually doing the work — not a salesman or scheduler who may not know the details.
Yes, Roger's Machine Works, LLC is fully licensed and insured. If your project requires proof of insurance — for a general contractor, facility manager, or municipality — we can provide certificates of insurance.
Call us at (864) 340-9450, email [email protected], or fill out the quote form on this site. We typically respond within one business day. For straightforward jobs, we can often give a ballpark right on the first call.
Both. We work with homeowners on custom decorative pieces, repairs, and farm/property needs — and we work with commercial and industrial clients on production parts, structural assemblies, and heavy equipment components. Everyone gets the same level of attention.
Services
We offer custom fabrication, CNC cutting, welding (MIG, TIG, and stick), bending (press brake and roll), and in-house CAD/CAM design. Because we have all of these capabilities under one roof, most projects can be completed start-to-finish without going elsewhere.
Both. We make single prototype parts, short runs, and full production batches. Our CAD/CAM setup means we're efficient at any quantity. Pricing reflects volume — a single one-off piece costs more per unit than a run of fifty, but we'll give you a clear number upfront either way.
Yes. Bring whatever you have — a napkin sketch, a photo of an existing part, a rough description, or finished engineering drawings. We use in-house CAD/CAM software to turn your concept into production-ready files. You'll review and approve those files before anything gets cut or bent.
We do both. Weld repairs, structural repairs on trailers and equipment, and replacement of cracked or broken metal parts are a regular part of our work. If you're not sure whether something is repairable or needs to be remade, bring it in and we'll take a look.
CNC Cutting
We work best with DXF files, but we can also work with PDF drawings, SVG, or even a sketch you scan and email us. Our in-house CAD/CAM software can convert most formats into a production file. When in doubt, just send what you have and we'll tell you if it works.
Capacity varies depending on material and cut type. For specific limits on your project, call or email us with the material type, thickness, and approximate dimensions — we'll confirm whether it's within our machine capabilities and quote from there.
Yes. CNC plasma cutting is well-suited for signage, monograms, decorative panels, ranch and farm signs, logos, and custom artistic cuts. If you can draw it, we can typically cut it. We can also design custom lettering and patterns for you in-house.
Welding
We do MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and stick (SMAW) welding. MIG is most common for structural and general fabrication work. TIG is used for precision welds, stainless, and aluminum. Stick is used for heavier structural work and field repairs. The right process depends on your material, thickness, and application — we'll recommend what's best.
Yes. We weld mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Stainless and aluminum typically require TIG welding for best results, especially where appearance or corrosion resistance matters. Let us know the material and application and we'll confirm the right approach.
In some cases, yes — particularly for large equipment or structural repairs that can't be moved. Contact us to discuss your situation. For most work, we prefer shop conditions for quality control, but we understand some jobs can't come to us.
Pricing & Turnaround
Pricing is based on material cost, machine time, and labor. We give fixed-price quotes on most jobs so you know exactly what you're paying before we start. For jobs with significant uncertainty in scope or material, we'll discuss that upfront and agree on a fair structure before any work begins.
Turnaround depends on the complexity of the project and current workload. Simple cuts or welds can often be done in a few days. Complex custom fabrication or larger runs may take a week or two. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we quote — and we stick to it.
For larger jobs or jobs with significant material costs, we may require a deposit before ordering materials or beginning work. For smaller, straightforward jobs this may not be necessary. We'll discuss payment terms clearly before starting.
We accept cash, check, and most major credit and debit cards. For recurring commercial clients, we can discuss net terms on a case-by-case basis. Contact us if you have specific payment needs and we'll work something out.
Materials
We primarily work with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. We can also work with other metals depending on the application. If you have a specific material requirement, reach out and we'll let you know if we can accommodate it or who to contact if we can't.
We can supply materials for most projects and include that cost in your quote. If you have a specific material you've already purchased or want to source yourself, we can also work with material you provide — just let us know when you reach out.
We can provide clean deburred and ground finishes on completed fabrication. For painting or powder coating, we work with trusted local finishers and can coordinate that as part of your project if needed — just let us know upfront so we can build it into the timeline.
